6.14 × 2.61 in
Hand-cut International Currency Collage on Archival Paper
The final Patchwork Diorama to come from last years study.
This piece took the concept of pixelation to a granular degree, hyper-focusing on the animal representation of Venezuelan banknotes.
I wanted to bring value, focus, and beauty back to banknotes that have been all but robbed of their tangible worth.
From pink to purple, Venezuela inserts many allegorical animals within its banknotes. You’ll find the Orinoco River Dolphin, Venezuelan Red Siskin, Giant Armadillo, American Harpy Eagle, Hawksbill Turtle, Jaguar, Brown Spider Monkey, Venezuelan Tropical and the Military Macaw.
The Patchwork Animalia Prototype is an extension of the series inherently, taken further by an experiment to seal/glaze the currency collage with a gloss finish. Frankly, this experiment failed in its QA/QC inspection. The $2 dollar is notorious for “dirty” or “messy” printing, with imperfections typically found around the border. Unfortunately the finish I tried with piece highlights these natural imperfections in an unideal aesthetic. The gloss refracts sunlight very effectively, almost too reflective at times.
Because these are visual impairments I’ve discounted the asking price accordingly.
A piece never to be precisely replicated again.
With interest, I humbly present this banknote offering, a rare discounted opportunity for investment. An offer of my time for yours.
